CCS EP01 - One Day

Sakura Thinking "One Day"

Sakura dreams of standing atop a building in front of the Tokyo Tower. Cards flutter all around her on a starry night lit by a full moon, and there is a strange, winged creature flying beside her. Wings appear on her feet, and she jumps off of the building she is standing on when the dream abruptly ends. Her alarm clock rings as she scrambles to get up. As she starts her day, Sakura is heard in narration introducing herself.

Sakura rushes downstairs after her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto, makes her breakfast. Her older brother, Touya Kinomoto, teases her from the opposite side of the kitchen table, calling her "a little monster". Sakura imagines "growing as big as a telephone pole and stomping on him" one day. While narrating about her family, Sakura also mentions her mother, who died when Sakura was three years old.

Touya gets up to leave as Sakura begins to eat, announcing that he's leaving for school early. Sakura becomes flustered and scarfs down her food. She thanks her father for the food and runs to the door to put on her roller blades and pads. She waves "good-bye" to her dad as she rolls down the street, taking in the cherry blossom trees in full bloom along the street.

CCS EP01 - Yukito

Sakura spotting Yukito

Sakura catches up to her brother, who had left on a bicycle. Touya isn't very happy to see his little sister, but Sakura has a different reason for catching up: Yukito Tsukishiro, Touya's best friend and classmate, and who Sakura has a secret crush on, waits partway down the street with his own bicycle. Touya makes fun of Sakura by telling Yukito that she ate breakfast in only five minutes, causing Sakura to kick him with her roller blades out of embarrassment. Yukito is oblivious to Sakura's feelings for him. He looks at Sakura and smiles, causing her to blush.

Sakura, Touya, and Yukito arrive at Sakura's school, Tomoeda Elementary. Touya continues on his way and Yukito tosses Sakura a candy as he rides off. This gains the attention of Sakura's best friend (and second cousin), Tomoyo Daidouji. Tomoyo comments on Sakura's cuteness, wishing that she had recorded it. Tomoyo then mentions that she recently got a new camera and wants to film Sakura with it. Sakura agrees but comments that there must be more interesting things to film than her, to which Tomoyo replies that no one is as interesting or cute as Sakura is; Sakura then narrates that for all Tomoyo's good qualities, she can be "weird" sometimes. During class, Sakura ponders about the creature in her dream earlier, while sketching the creature in her notebook. Tomoyo asks about the drawing but is interrupted when Sakura has to read to the class.

CCS EP01 - Baton Hit

Sakura gets hit by her Baton

During her cheerleading practice, Sakura sees the baton change for a moment into a pink, bird-headed wand. Stunned, she freezes in confusion, and the baton hits her in the middle of the forehead. Two of her friends and classmates, Chiharu Mihara and Naoko Yanagisawa, see this but are not surprised. Chiharu whispers to Naoko that while Sakura is an excellent athlete and an impressive cheerleader, she can be a big klutz, to which Naoko agrees.

After returning home, Sakura looks at the schedule and plans to grab dessert and start studying when she hears a sound coming from the basement. She grabs her cheerleading baton and hesitantly makes her way to the basement door, unsure if it is a burglar. Making her way into her father's study, Sakura inspects the area and finds that no one is there, only to be drawn to a glowing book at the end of the bookshelf. She picks up the locked book, which reads "The Clow," and the book suddenly unlocks, much to her surprise. She lifts the cover and sees a deck of cards placed within its pages, with the one at the top reading "The Windy." After Sakura reads the name, a sudden gust of wind erupts from a magic circle below her. As the wind continues to rage, the deck of fifty-two cards begin to fly out of the book, exiting through the walls and ceiling of the house (aside from The Wood and The Rain, which stay in the house, and The Light, which takes refuge in Sakura's heart.) The wind dissipates and Sakura drops the book and falls to the floor in disbelief, still holding The Windy. Just as she wonders what just happened, the book begins to glow again, and a small yellow plushlike creature emerges from the book cover, speaking in an Osaka dialect. The creature introduces himself as Cerberus, guardian beast of the seal, but quickly loses his enthusiasm when he sees that the cards are no longer in the book. Sakura presents the Windy to Cerberus and explains that the other cards all flew away. Cerberus initially laughs with Sakura about this, but quickly gets serious when he realizes what Sakura just said. After dinner, Sakura meets with Cerberus, who explains the origins of the cards and their creator, Clow Reed. Cerberus then formally appoints Sakura as the "Cardcaptor" and gives her the sealing wand.

CCS EP01 - Spotting FLY

Sakura and Cerberus spot Fly

As Sakura is getting ready for bed, she exclaims that she can't be a Cardcaptor, and blames Cerberus for sleeping on the job. They have little time to argue, however, as they see a large blue bird soaring over the house. Cerberus instructs her to go after the bird, as it is one of the Clow Cards. Sakura rollerblades down the street in her pajamas and stops partway as the large bird is perched on the gateway to the Tsukimine Shrine. It blows her and Cerberus away with a screech, forcing Sakura to pull out her wand, which she wields easily as a result of her cheerleading skills. Cerberus informs her of the card's name, "The Fly," and that Windy is strong against it. Sakura is hesitant to use her newfound power but comes up with a plan to take the bird down.

CCS EP01 - Landing On FLY'S Back

Sakura landing on Fly's back

During the capture, she lands on The Fly's back and summons The Windy, commanding it to bind The Fly. The large blue bird falls to the ground and Sakura jumps off, sealing the card. Cerberus praises her for the capture, but Sakura adamantly says she does not want the job and that she could've died. Cerberus retorts that she needs these types of experiences to be a better adult. He then instructs her to use the new card, and Sakura and Cerberus fly over the town.

Sakura is amazed by her new abilities, and Cerberus says that they make a great team, calling her Cardcaptor Sakura. Sakura agrees with Cerberus' assertion, only to realize what she just agreed to.

Kero
And who used this to scatter all the cards?
Sakura
Well, who fell asleep and didn't guard the cards?

Kero
Clow Cards. When unleashed, they will bring chaos to the world. They are special cards created by a magician named Clow Reed. Each one is alive and has its own special powers. They do as they please, and on top of that, ordinary people can't control them. That's why Clow made this book and put me, the guardian beast, on the cover.

Sakura (About Kero)
Batteries...? Where's the switch...? Where's the voice coming from?
Kero
I am not a toy!!!! I am Cerberus, the guardian beast of this book.

Kero
Well, do something, you're the Cardcaptor.
Sakura
And you're the supposedly intelligent guardian that knows all about the cards!
